Bike theft Prevention
Free bike theft prevention tools and ideas for cities

Cities, get more done to combat bike theft.
At a.bike we work with cities, cyclists, journalists and others to prevent bicycle theft. See our complete set of 20+ bike theft prevention tools and resources here. Our tools include a bike theft audit for cities, free bike theft prevention campaigns, tips how to choose a good bike lock, articles on bike theft and much more. Most are free to use.
Currently, our main focus is to promote and support the provision of secure ‘off street’ bicycle parking spaces in buildings in the EU, as soon required by the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). The EPBD is a major opportunity for cities to increase the supply of secure bike parking at no cost.
Bike theft Audit and beyond.
At.a.bike, we empower cities to combat bicycle theft with a suite of tailored services: The first is a confidential audit of each city’s current bike theft prevention measures.
We also create customizable Educational Materials: We provide a variety of infographics and social media visuals designed to raise awareness about bike theft prevention. Each city receives customized versions featuring their name and logo, ensuring localized impact.
Ready-to-Use Content for Public Outreach: Our team delivers sample texts for websites, brochures, and other materials, covering essential topics such as proper bike locking techniques, selecting theft-resistant locks, and identifying stolen bicycles. Cities can use these texts as-is or adapt them to suit their needs.

Bike Theft Prevention is Bike Infrastructure.
In the EU alone, 30 million bikes were stolen in the last ten years. Besides the financial damage close to one billion Euros, victims often stop cycling and millions of Europeans do not cycle at all, or cycle less because they fear theft. Theft is a major contribution to transport poverty.
